The Door to Trilesk

Portal Fantasy. No Romance. Book One

The Door to Trilesk book cover - Shannon Holly

Saving her aunt is easy. Standing up to her mother? That’s a bit harder.

Kate shouldn’t be here. Risking her mom’s wrath feels wrong. Especially for a house she can’t remember and one her mom is desperate to keep her from. But Kate can’t resist the pull of her aunt’s peculiar house that whispers welcome home. Or the strange, forgotten memories of a magical childhood summer that start to surface once inside.

Seeking solace, she decides to stay in the house for just a few days. But as time passes, unexplainable events blur the line between real and impossible. The line erodes even further after Kate stumbles upon her missing aunt’s hidden journal filled with tales of perilous adventures and doors to other worlds. Soon secrets are revealed: truths about her family, her past, and an ability she isn’t ready to claim.

When a powerful creature rips through dimensions to threaten Kate’s already fragile reality, she is stunned to learn her aunt may be alive. Held captive for knowledge that could end all worlds, Kate just may be the key to saving her.

What readers are saying:
* 4.67 average on Goodreads

“This portal fantasy swept me away with its imaginative world building & fast paced adventure. It felt like Star Wars meets The Chronicles of Narnia. If you enjoy fantasy with interdimensional travel, magical politics, and sci-fi, this one’s a fun ride.” — Corrina, Goodreads

“Aunt Esme is quirky and the grandest adventurer. Her journal entries pulled me in so hard. I love all of the side characters and their many personalities, especially Miswala.” — purrs and plotlines, Goodreads

“It was the story of generational trauma that really made this story special — how the relationship between Kate’s grandmother and mother affected the relationship between Kate and her mother was realistic and kept me hooked.” — Seriesbooklover, Goodreads

No part of this book was created with AI. All story plots, characters, ideas and everything contained within came painstakingly from my brain over the period of a few years and advise from my developmental editor (real person). I do use em dashes because I love them and will not stop using them. Try to take them from me. Double dog dare you. The cover was created by a real person. The short story that comes free in the back of the book was created by me and all me. Which is why I’m a slow writer. I like things to percolate and not force them so the ideas are organic and suddenly there it is! One of the best parts of writing and I would rather stick something unpleasant in an orifice than let AI give me story ideas or work out scenes or plot points. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
